Allison: I would really like my husband back now.
Jack: I’m right. Here.
Allison: But you’re missing the best part of you. Your heart.
Brings up some REALLY interesting concepts in philosophy of the mind and Artificial Intelligence … Can computers be BETTER than humans? Would androids be better? Because they can’t reason WITH emotions like we can, they can only be logical.
We keep talking about Reason (capital R) like it is the best thing ever. When in reality it isn’t. It compromises lives. Leads to our destruction. It needs to work in harmony with our emotions else we’re no better off than lifeless computers inside brains with no amygdala.
i always found it fascinating that people just sort of assume that AIs would, of course, have no emotion and purely work on logic and binary and beep boop INSERT RELATIONSHIP OUTPUT FEELING SIMULATION ALPHA NINE.
artificial intelligence has the exact same chance of innately having feelings about the stimuli that they experience as any other entity that experiences stimuli. a snail will cower and run in fear when exposed to salt. why would a life form on a disk be any different?
